Tonkotsu Red Ramen - Hakata Ikkousha

Among all the ramen places I had been to so far, I like the ramen in this Japanese restaurant franchise the most. My spice tolerance is medium, so  to me, this red miso broth is very flavorful with the proper level of heat. I like the flavored egg here very much, which is optional with an additional cost of $1.50.  Overall, I think both the broth and the pork in this place are better than Santouka, which is now dropped to the  2nd spot on my list of most favorite ramen restaurants. I always save the broth to take home because I like to throw in the spaghetti,  bok choy and Trader Joe's frozen cilantro chicken Wontons to make another meal. The broth makes very fast and super delicious Wonton spaghetti soup.

$22 + Tax I love Shabu-Shabu.  I can have this for lunch and dinner everyday if only I can afford to.  I don't cook but I love this cook-it-yourself table top cooking format at a Shabu-Shabu restaurant. I was never a fan of this dining format until I discovered this restaurant .  I had visited a few Shabu places before but I never liked it.  Back then, I felt the meat was gamy, and the dipping sauce too boring.  I used to think Shabu was bland and overall not that appetizing.  But this place completely changed my feeling for Shabu-Shabu.  I think the quality of the ingredients really make a huge difference.  The meat here is of very high quality!  The ponzu sauce and goma (sesame) sauce here are the best tasting dipping sauces I've had among all Shabu places.   A meal like this may look easy to replicate at home, but not really.  I did try a few times but it was never as good.  I wasn't able to get the ponzu and goma sauce to taste as good as the sauces in this p

Iced Coffee With Coffee Jelly - Hamadaya

$3.55 + Tax I would like to avoid coffee after work, but I couldn't help it when I was shopping for dinner to go. I felt so tired and thirsty after my commute from work.  I just felt like having some coffee to recharge me even though drinking coffee in the evening is not really a healthy lifestyle. So I ordered the coffee jelly over milk with a shot of espresso at this bakery cafe before I began my dinner shopping.  I was just curious when I saw this on the menu.  May be a lot of people like to have jelly in their coffee, I personally don't care for coffee with boba or jelly.  I prefer not to have anything that isn't liquid in my coffee but I'm neutral about it.   The jelly in this coffee tasted like black coffee and I guess it was made with black coffee.    In terms of taste, this isn't my most favorite coffee drink.  It tasted okay to me. Popcorn Chicken Bento - Mindi's Kitchen

$8.95 + Tax I'm back to Mindi's Kitchen tonight simply because I'm hungry and  craving for  some Taiwanese comfort food that reminds me of the home-cooked meals that I had when I was visiting Taiwan.  I'm not Taiwanese, but I have Taiwanese friends who introduced me to their food that I instantly fell in love with.  Taiwanese popcorn chicken is one of those signature Taiwanese snacks that also make great meals.  Yes, they are a lot more delicious than the typical American popcorn chicken.  And yes, they are much better tasting than the McNuggets.  I never understood the appeal of McNuggets.  I never liked McNuggets even when I was a kid who loved to visit McDonald's.   My parents also hated the nuggets.  May be my dislike for McNuggets is genetic.
