Popcorn Chicken Bento - Mindi's Kitchen

Image
$8.95 + Tax I'm back to Mindi's Kitchen tonight simply because I'm hungry and  craving for  some Taiwanese comfort food that reminds me of the home-cooked meals that I had when I was visiting Taiwan.  I'm not Taiwanese, but I have Taiwanese friends who introduced me to their food that I instantly fell in love with.  Taiwanese popcorn chicken is one of those signature Taiwanese snacks that also make great meals.  Yes, they are a lot more delicious than the typical American popcorn chicken.  And yes, they are much better tasting than the McNuggets.  I never understood the appeal of McNuggets.  I never liked McNuggets even when I was a kid who loved to visit McDonald's.   My parents also hated the nuggets.  May be my dislike for McNuggets is genetic. But I definitely love Taiwanese popcorn chicken. The popcorn chicken at Mindi's is so tasty and crispy tender, and it's served with my choice of sauce. I chose the spicy sauce ...

Pork Chop Bento - Mindi's Kitchen

$8.95+Tax This is another bento (lunchbox) meal from Mindi's Ktichen that had instantly become my new favorite takeout place.  The pork chop was breaded with five spice and garlic, deep fried and then stewed in a very tasty sauce.  There is a crispy deep-fried option without the stew process which I would like to try next time.  So far, I love the flavor and texture of the pork chop. I don't eat pork chop too often because I often find them stinky in a lot of restaurants.  But the pork chop prepared by Mindi's is very good. As usual, I like the accompanying mild broth, the yummy Taiwanese seasoned egg, fried tofu and whatever side veggies of the day that Mindi threw in. Today, I have the green beans, napa cabbage, bok choy, a slice Japanese turnip pickle ( I love this pickle even though I hate American style pickled cucumbers.)    For me, who isn't much a meat eater or heavy eater, a meal like this usually is split between lunch and dinner with some e...

5 Spice Minced Pork Bento - Mindi's Kitchen

$8.95 + Tax I stumbled upon Mindi's Kitchen when I was shopping at a bakery in a strip mall.  I love the very tasty Taiwanese style minced pork stewed with traditional five spice. This Bento box comes with steamed white rice topped with minced pork, stewed mushroom, seasoned egg, fried tofu, Bok Choy, Lotus Root & Napa cabbage.  It also comes with a cup of mildly flavored broth which is how it's supposed to be in the world of Taiwanese meals. I haven't had Lotus Root for so long and I'm glad this Bento box comes with it.  I enjoy the crunch of Lotus Root which has lots of fiber.  This is a very filling Bento with good proteins and great veggies that I like. I'm not Taiwanese, but this Bento box reminds me of the home-cooked meals I had when I visited my Taiwanese friend, which tasted so much healthier than the typical Taiwanese and Chinese restaurants which cook with lots of MSG and oil.  For those of you who are used to the typical Chinese restaurant c...
