Tonkotsu Red Ramen - Hakata Ikkousha

Image
$10.4 + Tax (Price includes the added flavored egg.) Among all the ramen places I had been to so far, I like the ramen in this Japanese restaurant franchise  the most. My spice tolerance is medium, so  to me, this red miso broth is very flavorful with the proper level of heat. I like the flavored egg here very much, which is optional with an additional cost of $1.50.  Overall, I think both the broth and the pork in this place are better than Santouka , which is now dropped to the  2nd spot on my list of most favorite ramen restaurants. I always save the broth to take home because I like to throw in the spaghetti,  bok choy and Trader Joe's frozen cilantro chicken Wontons to make another meal. The broth makes very fast and super delicious Wonton spaghetti soup.

Corn Salad - Ko-Ryu Ramen

$3.00+ Tax This ramen restaurant has the salad that I wish, could be available in all ramen restaurants that I patron.  I don't visit this ramen restaurant as much as I used to, because there are just so many restaurants in the area.  But when I do visit this place, I always order this corn salad. The corn is always so sweet and crunchy and the shredded cabbage is always so refreshing and crispy. The salad dressing is so uniquely good that so far I haven't been able to find a bottled salad dressing from the Asian grocery stores to replicate this salad at home.   Like any coleslaw salad with shredded cabbage, this salad is best to be consumed when ordered at the restaurant, and its leftover is not suitable for doggy bag. It's because shredded cabbage salad, after being refrigerated overnight, often become bitter due to the mustard oil the cabbage releases overtime.  I learnt this by my naive attempt to bring chopped cabbage salad and coleslaw salad le...

Spicy Miso Ramen Combo Set - Santouka

Image
Combo A: $12.45 + Tax I love the spicy miso ramen noodle with the very tender and very flavorful thin piece of  Japanese roasted pork, topped with green onions, shredded wood ear mushroom and sliced bamboo shoot (I don't like bamboo shoot so I always picked them out and discarded them). The Japanese seasoned egg is the most delicious kind of boiled egg that I can eat several in one setting if the price per egg is cheaper.  The combo set comes with a small rice bowl with your choice of topping. I chose a rice bowl that was topped with seaweeds.  I love Japanese seaweeds.  Yes, there are a lot of carbs in this meal, but I like how the carbs fill me up. This is another Japanese restaurant franchise that I visit a lot.  I always take my out-of-town friends here when they visit me because for them it's like having a real good taste of Japan without having to go to Japan.
