Popcorn Chicken Bento - Mindi's Kitchen

I'm back to Mindi's Kitchen tonight simply because I'm hungry and  craving for  some Taiwanese comfort food that reminds me of the home-cooked meals that I had when I was visiting Taiwan.  I'm not Taiwanese, but I have Taiwanese friends who introduced me to their food that I instantly fell in love with.  Taiwanese popcorn chicken is one of those signature Taiwanese snacks that also make great meals.  Yes, they are a lot more delicious than the typical American popcorn chicken.  And yes, they are much better tasting than the McNuggets.  I never understood the appeal of McNuggets.  I never liked McNuggets even when I was a kid who loved to visit McDonald's.   My parents also hated the nuggets.  May be my dislike for McNuggets is genetic. But I definitely love Taiwanese popcorn chicken.

The popcorn chicken at Mindi's is so tasty and crispy tender, and it's served with my choice of sauce. I chose the spicy sauce because I think it's the best tasting sauce among the three options.  The spice level of the spicy sauce is just right to me (my heat tolerance level is usually medium).  The great flavor of the spicy sauce just compliments the crispy popcorn chicken so perfectly.  Bento meal is one of my go-to comfort foods. I don't know whether it is the rice, the side veggies or my beloved seasoned egg, there is no meal that satisfies me more than a bento that offers a fantastic entree (like the popcorn chicken in this one) , accompanied with steamed rice and a variety of side dishes.

    I ordered this bento box again last night. I still love this bento box. I have to remind myself to ask them not to put shredded bamboo shoot on my bento next time though. They put shredded bamboo shoot in the mixed veggies last night when it used to be sliced carrots. Bamboo shoot is my most hated root vegetable. It carries a urine-like smell which grosses me out. Many people love bamboo shoot but not me. I have to remember to ask them next time not to put this in my veggies since it stinks my bento. I understand that they put in whatever veggies that are available on the day. The rest of the bento box still tasted as good as I had it last time. I still love it even the bamboo shoot ruined it a little for me.

$22 + Tax I love Shabu-Shabu.  I can have this for lunch and dinner everyday if only I can afford to.  I don't cook but I love this cook-it-yourself table top cooking format at a Shabu-Shabu restaurant. Golden Buckwheat Crisp Balls + Longan Cake - Eva Air

Free for all passengers on board Eva Air enroute from Macau to Taipei Since I'm so used to flying from New York City to Los Angeles without being given any snacks or even a small bag of peanuts, I was pleasantly surprised to be receiving a snack tray during my 1 hour and 50 minutes' short flight from Macau to Taipei.  The little bag of Balls Crisps were so crunchy and delicious!   I don't usually like dried rice cereals or any dried snacks, but I love these Balls Crisps very much. They just had such great flavors.  The longan cake was like raisins cake, but instead of raisins, the dried longan fruits were used. For those of you who had never eaten a longan, it's a very delicious fruit that looks like a big pearl after being peeled from its skin.  Due to its appearance, it's also called Dragon's Eye by the Cantonese Chinese. Berrytale - 85 °C Bakery Cafe

$1.5+Tax The is the sweet roll that I always crave for in the morning and in the afternoon.  They are great for breakfast or afternoon tea.  I once brought a dozen of this to my work's morning meeting, and all my colleagues were fighting for a second.  This freshly baked sweet roll is so good it's addictive.  The roll is freshly baked many times a day at this bakery because it sells so fast. It's filled with blueberry cream inside and topped with a dot of blueberry jam.  The sweet buttery crust on top of the bun is always very fresh and delicious.  After trying out this roll, my colleagues now can't go back to the average donuts in the pink box.  The difference between this roll and the typical donuts in pink boxes is the ingredient.  This roll tastes really good with good ingredients, while the average donuts are probably sweetened with corn syrup, deep fried in old oil and  filled with Crisco instead of real cream.  I never liked the average donuts in pink boxes
