Sukiyakinabe - Mifune

$11 + Tax

The simmering of udon noodle, napa cabbage, fried tofu puffs, shrimp tempura, shiitake mushroom, seaweed, fish cake, tofu, beef slices, and green onions in a sukiyaki broth inside a very hot Japanese metal pot is a brilliant idea for a comfort meal in a cold night.  Just the beef in this Japanese hot pot was very tough. It was so tough that I couldn't chew down any.  This would have been a perfect meal if only the beef was tender like the beef at my favorite Japanese hot pot restaurant.  The rest of the ingredients in this pot were great.  Again, did the lowly paid kitchen staff at this restaurant cut the beef against the wrong grain?  Or it was because the price point of this dish doesn't allow for a better cut of meat?  I would rather pay more for tender, tasty beef than pay less for a lot of insanely tough beef that I can't chew into.
