Beach Benedict - Truxton's American Bistro

$14.95 + Tax

The last time I was here at this venue was New Year's Eve back in 2012 when this was still Restaurant Christine.  Back then, my friend and I spent $150+ here for the 3-course dinner but we didn't think the food was that good.  So when Restaurant Christine closed, it wasn't a surprise to me.  Today, when I drove by I suddenly became curious about this new restaurant that took the occupancy.  I never paid attention to this complex until today when I suddenly spotted this new restaurant sign (which has been here for quite a while but I just only spotted it today).  So I went in to try it out.

May be I made the mistake of trying to be too health conscious,  I didn't enjoy what I ordered. I ordered the vegetarian benedict that had the English muffin with poached eggs, sautéed spinach, caramelized onions, roasted tomatoes & hollandaise sauce. I chose fresh fruit instead of potatoes to be the side dish.  I had never had a vegetarian benedict before, and I think the spinach totally didn't gel with the hollandaise sauce and the English Muffin.  I felt that the lemon juice or vinegar used in the hollandaise sauce totally was incompatible with the sautéed spinach, as it made the spinach taste even more tart and bitter than usual.  Then there was the hint of tartness and bitterness that is always present in English Muffins that also added to the unpleasant taste to me.  The sun dried tomatoes didn't help either.  The caramelized onions were good but unfortunately they didn't compensate for the overall tartness and bitterness of the spinach. May be I didn't like this dish because I'm not a vegetarian.  This dish just didn't work for me. It looked pretty however.

The fruits were just the usual fruits served in most places , I just wish the strawberries could be sweetened a little... I hate sour strawberries.
